Featuring the Patriotic Designs of Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: Liberty carries branches in the early morning sun on the obverse. The design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed along the rim, joined elsewhere on this face by the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2004." Adolph Weinman was a sculptor whose work continues to be displayed in a variety of American cities. His best known numismatic contributions were the designs for the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.
Reverse: On the reverse is John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top, while an eagle protects a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch below. The image is encircled by rim inscriptions that read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the US Mint's twelfth Chief Engraver, a post that he held for just part of his tenure with the institution. He is the most prolific designer of coins and medals in American history.
Virtually Flawless MS69
This piece earned the second highest grade given out by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), Mint State 69. To earn that grade, a coin must be perfect as seen by the naked eye.
