    ANTIQUE ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR ERA SOLDIER BELT KNIFE & SHEATH - NICE. Measures 12" overall, blade is 6.5". I bought this at the well respected Union Drummer Boy Civil War shop in Gettysburg, Pa. They believe it was probably made and carried by a German Immigrant soldier because of the way it is designed. There were many German people who fought in the Civil War on both the North and the Southern side of the conflict. It has a combination of parts that represent various sources such as a Sheffield England type sheath, German silver (tarnished black) dear legs for a hilt guard and antler bone handle grip and military issue leather for the belt loop attachment. A very unique knife that could have been used out West too in the years after the Civil War. The knife is tight and solid with a bit of old solder showing by the guard where it had probably worked loose at some time many years ago, but it is fine and tight now. This knife and sheath have that "been there done that" look that makes you wish it could talk and tell its tales of adventure. See pics for more details. Ask questions if need be.
