RARE AND FINE USMC CIVIL WAR W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS U.S. MARINE CORPS OFFICER’S SWORD
RARE USMC CIVIL WAR W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS U.S. MARINE CORPS OFFICER’S SWORD 34 inch overall, blade is 28 inches long, etched blade with martial motifs including a fine “EAGLE” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” banner as well as a large “U.S.M.C.”. Ricasso etched in a panel “W.H. HORSTMANN/&SONS/PHILADELPHIA”. Brass U.S. Foot Officer’s style hilt adopted by the Marines in 1859 replacing the Mameluke for the duration of the Civil War. The Mameluke was re-adopted after the war and these Foot Officer type swords are very scarce and desirable. Seldom seen and almost never in this nice condition.
100% original and with nice, bright etching and with unpolished brass hilt and mounts. Original wood grip and wire.
Blade shows some wear and spots. See close up photos where Nickel is spotted.
Great old patina on hilt. No knicks or dents to blade.
Tip shows some wear.
Don’t miss this rare sword. From my personal collection. I have owned this since 1991. So as for the price I am not really going to drop the price.
It doesn’t eat anything and takes up very little space.
