This portrait is restored from a Bern Hill series of posters printed in 1955. It is printed on matte cardstock photo paper with Canon inks guaranteed for 100 years without fading
The Chesapeake and Ohio was built to pull the coal out of the mines into major east coast cities, bypassing lucrative passenger routes. The image of Guido Grenewald’s sleeping kitten became famously the mascot of the “Chessie System” and a marketing success noting the introduction of air conditioning into its new service. Its famous passenger routes included the George Washington and Fast Flying Virginian (FFV) between Washington/Newport News and Cincinnati/Louisville.
Bern Hill was a freehand artist famous for his marketing work for Electro-Motive Division in the 1950’s. This was part of a series of posters for the C&O. The Virginia seashore features outer sandbanks that extend throughout the mid-Atlantic and famous for their “Assateague ponies”, claimed to descend from Spanish sea-wrecks and survivors of numerous hurricanes.
This poster comes framed in an 11x17 frame with solid plastic trim with a glass cover and we ship it, so it won't break in transit. Any watermark is only on website photos and not placed on our final prints.
