    Description

Almost always missing and impossible to get.  After dozens of requests over the last few years, I had these machined and now offer them for sale with instructions. Since there were at least 50 different makers this button
    WILL
most likely require some sizing but it will be minimal. The sizing will be on the bottom side only and usually just the stud . Some makers used round holes, and some other sized square holes. They were made a bit over size on purpose because fit it critical, but all material that needs to be removed is from the bottom side.
I use to file them by hand and it took hours only to end up with a button that doesn't fit. I chose to have these machined both for myself and others who restore. I am not sure about your time, but mine is worth more than and hour and for that reason these are a bargain. For those that don't know how they work. I have enclosed a few pictures of how they sit in the guard. Their function is to hold the guard open or closed. It was a poor design (steel) against brass but for collecting purposes they will last a life time. In daily battle not so much. They actually did away with the folding guard in later models. Many later ones you see have no counter guard that sits against your hip. However all early ones had it and certainly all civil war era ones.
The guard is not included but can be purchased
    separately.
These are the bomb and could be drop in, but remember this one was patterned after 1 particular maker. In any case they will fit any Model 1860 staff sword from 1860 to the lodge swords of the 1920's with minimal or no work, also depending on the size and shape of the anchor hole they sit in, and the dept of the hole. After my 1st few months of sales, plus my own use, I have had nothing but positive comments (
see feedback on over 25 sold
). My guess is the work has been minimal for these 1st few buyers. It is a fact that 60% of the swords out there are missing these so until they run out, I will have a supply.
This small investment will increase the value of your sword by 40% and the desirability by 100%.
I can also preform this job if you contact me.
These also come with instructions, and free shipping.
