    Description

Civil War Model 1852 USN Naval Officers Etched Sword with Leather Scabbard. The ricasso is unmarked, I cannot find any markings anywhere. The brass guard and pommel cap are tight. The grip will barely move but you have to force it. The sharkskin grip is 98% complete. The twisted wire is complete and tight. The beautifully etched blade has "U.S. Navy." on it instead of the common USN, there is a ship with sails, eagle with shield and several floral designs. It has not been sharpened, several nicks along the edge, a few age spots scattered and a few spots of surface rust on the last 9" by the sharp tip. Leather
    washer is intact.
The leather scabbard is complete but fragile, it is weak about an inch above the drag, there is some leather loss mainly on the lower half, it is missing the drag screw and the drag has several small dings
. You need to be careful putting the sword back into the scabbard, sometimes it gets stuck on the loose leather inside.
Length of the blade measures 29 1/8" (1 1/8" wide x 5/16" thick), length of the sword is 34 5/8", and overall in the scabbard it is also 35 1/4" (comes up an 1/8" shy of going on all the way due to leather shrinkage). Beautiful piece with minor defects!
