CIVIL WAR US MODEL 1860 CAVALRY SABER SWORD-C. ROBY W. CHELMSFORD MS. 1863

Description

Good condition original Civil War US Model 1860 cavalry saber that is maker marked “C. ROBY W. CHELMSFORD MS.” on the left ricasso and dated 1863 on the right ricasso. 35” blade has bright finish with some scattered gray and pits, probably polished at some point. Brass hilt has been plated bright and is stamped “54” on the back of the guard. Leather covered wooden grip has tight wire wrap. Leather is worn and wood has a few cracks. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has nickel plated finish showing some flaking, no dents. A classic Civil War cavalry saber that will make a great addition to a collection.
