Description
Exceptional Civil War Non Regulation Pattern Cavalry Officer Sword Clauberg Rare. Very scarce civil war cavalry officer imported sword. It is marked Clauberg Solingen w knight and sword hallmark. It is believed these non regulation sabres were imported by Tiffany & Co in New York City in 1861. Early in the war when they were in great need of officer swords. This style ia actually very scarce and rarely hits the market. Though without it scabbard it is still a solid field used and carriered sword. These were used for dress purposes and for field combat. This example is very tight and complete no missing pieces or issues. It has a stunning eagle w scroll motif and US on the other side of the blade. It does appear to have been chromed or replated but this appears to have been done very very long ago possibly period. No evidence of pitting under the chrome or nickel coating. Maybe it was done for battle use i dont know. It has a number of small nicks along the blade most likely from clashing with another sword leading me to believe this sword saw combat in the civil war! A hard to beat rare original piece with stunning patina and a beautiful motif and quality! Dont miss out!More images can be provided upon request! Also forgot to mention evidence of the mark iron proof on the top of the spine is still there but the plating makes it faint! Let me know if you need more info! Thanks
No rust or pitting on sword!
