Description
Presented for the advanced Civil War bayonet or arms collector is this extremely rare specimen of the bayonet intended for use with reduced-size versions of a rifle-musket for cadet use or as a child-sized musket (for play, parades, or "dress up") during the Civil War. Most of this genre of musket that I have observed generally follow the Enfield pattern and I have seen some that were stamped on the lock plate "L&T" which represents Lewis & Tomes whose partnership in the transatlantic retail trade of arms/military goods is well known. If you've been in the Civil War collecting field for a while you will know exactly what I'm talking about regarding these miniature muskets. They were completely functional, but of greatly reduced size and caliber. Any of the major dealers will know of them. This bayonet is in untouched condition and exhibits much of the original bright finish with some scattered, pinprick pitting. The form of the bayonet is exactly like a Pattern 1853 Enfield and is about 1/2 scale. The bayonet measures 10 inches in overall length with a blade length of 7 3/8 inches. The socket interior diameter is 17/32 or a little over 1/2 of an inch. The locking ring turns freely. The shank of the bayonet is stamped with the numeral "20" in an antiquated font. Again, this bayonet is just like its larger Pattern 1853 Enfield brothers in terms of form and functionality. If you have one of these rare cadet muskets with an outside barrel diameter of 1/2 of an inch this bayonet would be a must have to complete the ensemble! Rare material here from Brother Rabbit's hutch!
