    GORGEOUS POLISHED BLADE IS RICHLY DECORATED ON BOTH SIDES WITH MILITARY / NAVY MOTIF DECORATION, USN, AMERICAN EAGLE, STARS AND ANCHOR - SUPERB CRIP DETAILS.
    ABSOLUTELY STUNNING BRIGHT GOLD-GILDING ON BACKGROUND.
    BLADE IS MARKED AT RICASSO: W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS PHILADELPHIA.
    Horstmann & Sons Company was one of the finest American sword makers and retailers of military goods, including uniforms and hats.
    Horstmann firm was founded by William H. Horstmann (1785-1850), who had immigrated to Philadelphia from Germany. Horstmann bought out a local swordmaker in 1828 and thereafter entered the military goods field.
    The firm benefitted from the Civil War, becoming the largest military goods supplier in the nation by 1864.
    ALSO MARKED WITH "KING'S HEAD" MAKER'S MARK FOR GEBRUDER WEYESBERG.
    Weyersberg was a family sword making dynasty located in Germany, near Solingen and recorded of making swords as early as the 15th century. During the American Civil war, Horstmann & Sons used Gebruder Weyersberg's imported blades on its highest grade swords.

    BLADE IS IN EXCELLENT, NEAR MINT ORIGINAL ANTIQUE UNCLEANED CONDITION WITH VERY (VERY!) MINOR HONEST WEAR AND VERY LIGHT CHARMING INDICATION OF AGE.
    ORIGINAL "MIRROR LIKE" POLISH.
    ONLY WEAR TO GOLD GILDING AND SOME DARKENING AT THE RICASSO (at the maker's mark, outside of decorated part of the blade).
    VIRTUALLY 100% OF ORIGINAL BRIGHT GOLD GILDING IS STILL PRESENT AT THE DECORATED SECTION.
