    Description

This portrait is restored from a 1950's promotional print for the Monon Railroad.
It was painted by Bern Hill, a freehand artist famous for his marketing work for Electro-Motive Division in the 1950’s. It is part of a series of promotional posters for GM's EMD Unit featuring their customer's trains.
The Monon Railroad was originally known as the Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville Railway and referred to as "The Hoosier Line". Its lines converged in the town of Monon, Indiana, and the hence railroad's adopted moniker. The railroad operated primarily in the States of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. The railroad was founded through a number of mergers and acquisitions and was reorganized as the Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville Railway in 1897 and survived until 1968 when it merged with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The "Thoroughbred" and "Bluegrass" were its popular passenger trains that connected Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky. It also operated several shorter routes including Chicago to Indianapolis that are still continued today by Amtrak. The former Monon tracks are operated by CSX today, which later absorbed the L&N.
This print is restored from the original and printed on gloss cardstock photo paper which is acid-free and with Canon inks that are guaranteed for 100 years without fading.  The prints come in the frame size as specified with solid plastic trim with a glass cover. We package it to minimize the risk of damage. Please note that the watermark is visible only on website photos and it is not placed on our final poster prints.
