This portrait is restored from a 1930's era poster by Sascha Maurer for the New Haven Railroad featuring a streamlined steam locomotive. Sasha Mauer was a German-born artist that served on German U-boats in World War I and eventually immigrated to the US through Brazil where he started as a muralist. He painted numerous watercolors for the New Haven RR.
The New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railway was a major New England Railroad with operations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York that was the product of nearly 100 small New England railroads. The network was founded by banker, J.P. Morgan's, through his acquisition of multiple regional transportation companies. He successfully monopolized much of the traffic between the important Boston-New York corridor. While it controlled much of the New England rail traffic, it constantly faced bankruptcy and financial challenges and in 1968 was merged into Penn Central, a product of the New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad merger.
This print is restored from the original and printed on gloss cardstock photo paper which is acid-free and with Canon inks that are guaranteed for 100 years without fading.
The prints come in the frame size as specified with solid plastic trim with a glass cover. We package it to minimize the risk of damage. Please note that the watermark is visible only on website photos and it is not placed on our final poster prints.
