Description

Pre-Civil War Era
S&K Model 1821 Officers Sword
.
The ricasso has "S & K" (Schnitzler & Kirschbaum), no other markings. The leather grip is 95% complete. The twisted wire is 90% complete, the last 10% is a repair that wasn't done very well, the end of the repair wire is latched over the guard. The grip is tight but the guard and pommel are loose.
The etched blade
has floral and scroll designs with a drum, flag, cannon, etc, all with a faint trace of the gold. Overall it has not been
sharpened, the tip is sharp, no rust, very light minor pitting on the last 1" by the tip on one side only, has some nicks on the lower third towards the tip, and it does have a slight bend. W
asher is missing. No scabbard. Length of the blade is 27 1/4" (1 1/8" wide and 1/4" thick), and the sword overall is 33". Still a beautiful piece considering the age and the minor imperfections!
This style is based on the French Model 1821. Many of these swords were imported for use in the Civil War.
