Rare E.Lyon M1840 US Cavalry Sword Officer's Saber
The sword hilt is brass mounted of regulation design. The black sharkskin grip is perfect with all the wires intact and solid. The blade side of the quillon has an oval stamp E.L. and three stars (French maker, E. Lyon). The slightly curved single-edged blade has numerous designs including the US eagle with the Federal shield and a ribbon in it's beak with  " E PLURIBUS UNUM " above the designs there are some areas of light surface age spots.
The scabbard on this sword is in fine condition. It is iron has no dents and has a beautiful dark bronze smooth finish.The overall length is 37 " with a 30 1/2" blade.
