Top Grain Cowhide Vintage Dopp Doctor’s Style Bag.
J.J. Collins, Jr. of Salem, Virginia had excellent taste in leather bags when he purchased a Dopp Bilt top grain cowhide doctor's bag. This bag is absolutely beautiful! On the front you have the name badge listed as J.J. Collins, Jr. The locking mechanism is in good shape, but sadly the key was not found. The leather strap and handle have both seen natural wear and aging but are in great condition. There is a little bit of oxidation on the metal plate, but it really accentuates the age and beauty of the piece.
Light brown stitching outlines the leather, and the side hinges work freely and without any hang ups or looseness. When you open the bag, you can open it fully where it will then lock itself open, and by pressing gently on the hinges, you can lower the sides and close the bag. The bag has two partitions inside to keep things neat and organized, and the bottom of the bag, both inside and out, is really fantastic for it's age.
I cleaned it up, wiping it down with some leather cleaner, but I did not attempt to remove any of the natural markings or signs of use because I believe in preserving the purpose of a piece.
You will not be sorry with this beautiful doctor's bag. Use it as a briefcase, as luggage, an overnight bag, or put it on a shelf and let it become a favorite piece of your collection.
