Description
Post US Civil War Model 1860 Whistle Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso is marked with is the walking bear stamp which supposedly stands for Abraham Kuller Zu Wald, he was a Solingen sword maker active from 1847 to 1880. The guard and pommel cap both move a tiny bit, the grip moves even less. The grip shows little wear but has dried and shrunk so the seams no longer tough, there is roughly an 1/8" to 3/8" gap. The twisted wire is gone. The whistle is functional and loud. The double clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and on the folding side (has a very slight bend) it has a shield with crossed cannons, swords, and rifle. The blade is straight, no nicks, it is unsharpened, has age spots throughout, and a few spots of surface rust. The scabbard is solid with a couple small dings, some tiny spots of surface loss scattered throughout (one bigger spot near the throat), the throat piece is gone and the screws for both hanger mounts are also gone. The washer is missing. Length of the blade measures 30 1/8" (11/16" wide x 1/16" thick), length of the sword is 36 7/8", and overall in the scabbard it is 38 1/4".Check out my other War items!!
