Description
US Civil War Model 1840 Type I, Straight Artillery Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "S&K" which stands for Schnitzler & Kirschbaum, sword makers of Solingen, Germany, it also has "1859". The guard and grip are tight. The grip appears to be painted black or tarred? The blade is straight, crudely made,
the tip is blunted
, no nicks, has age spots scattered throughout and some light surface rust spots towards the tip area. The scabbard is solid with a few dents, has a 3 1/2" x 1/32" seam split, and has some light surface rust with pitting scattered throughout. The leather washer is intact. Length of the blade is 34 5/8" (1 1/16" wide and 5/16" thick), the sword is 39 3/4", and in the scabbard it is 41 3/4".
