    Description

Louis E. Crone was born in Grimma, Saxony on September 13, 1826. He migrated to the US, joined the Union Army, and was wounded at the Battle of Gaines Mills on October 31, 1862, as a Second Lieutenant.  He lost his left arm and was wounded in the left foot. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on December 16, 1862, and was at the Battle of Chancellorsville on June 15, 1863. After that battle he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corp. He was promoted to Captain July 26, 1866, and retired December 15, 1870. After retirement he was an agent for the National Soldiers Home. He lived in Lexington, Massachusetts.
This Presentation Sword was presented to Louis in 1866, so never saw battle.  I was amazed to read he was still on active duty after he lost an arm. The sword is almost as it was in 1866. The blade is in beautiful condition, as is the scabbard. It is an Ames sword. There are no dents or dings in the scabbard, and no repairs or damage to the sword. Louis E. Crone is etched on the left side of the blade, and US and E. Pluribus Unum on the other. Shipping is a flat .00 insured in the US.
