    Description

Offered here is an unusual variation of the US Model 1840 US NCO sword and scabbard.  Sword manufactured by the Weyersburg Co. Germany and ostensibly imported by the Horstmann Co. of Philadelphia between 1860 and 1870.  The scabbard is marked "Horstmann" on reverse at top of throat (see pics).  The blade measures 28 3/4" and remains smooth with dull silver color, no rust or pitting.  Overall length is 34 3/4".   The the brass clamshell hilt features wire wrapped grip, with solid round pommel now pleasingly mustard color from age.  The brass guard features double hanger rings, acorn shaped drag and is decorated with leaf style scroll engraving down front side.  Overall the sword and scabbard grade near excellent but at least VG+.  Please ask questions as I just reprinted info on the tag that accompanied this sword.
