William "Bill" Tilden Signed Mailing Envelope - Tennis Great - Nice Autograph

Description

Famed American tennis player (1893-1953) whose major tournament victories number in the dozens (including six consecutive years as U.S. Singles Champion). Though his reputation was tainted by a pedophilic scandal and a jail term in the 1940s, a 1950 Associated Press poll named him the greatest tennis player of the first half of the twentieth century.
Original mailing envelope addressed in the hand of Bill Tilden and signed by him in the return address portion.  The envelope is postmarked October 13, 1949 from Saugus, California.  The return address is signed
"W.T. Tilden"
from his jail cell in CA.  It is addressed by him to his protege, Arthur Anderson in Hollywood, California.  All writing is in dark pencil.
